Sechaba Leads January Trading Surge on the domestic bourse

  • Contributes6% to the total equity turnover

  • BOD emerged as the top gainer for the month


The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) market report for January 2024 showcases notable trends in trading activity and equity performance. According to the report, the top three traded companies during the month were Sechaba, Sefalana, and FNBB, with turnovers of P118.2 Million, P10.9 Million, and P6.7 Million, respectively.


Collectively, these three companies accounted for a significant portion of the total equity turnover, comprising 89.2% of the market activity. Leading the pack, Sechaba alone contributed 77.6% to the total equity turnover.

Comparing this data to the same period in the previous year, the dominance of the top three traded companies has increased significantly. In January 2023, these companies represented 70.2% of total equity turnover, with RDC Properties leading at 28.7%.


Among the 32 listed companies, including BBS on the Serala OTC Board, market performance in terms of share price varied.


Three companies experienced a decline in share price, while 12 saw an appreciation, and 17 remained unchanged.


Notably, Botswana Diamonds (BOD) emerged as the top gainer for the month, with a robust 6.7% growth in share price. Conversely, Far Property Company (FPC) faced the most substantial decline, experiencing a decrease of 24.7% in share price.
